Bank's big error..here is an update

March 31st, 2006 at 10:11 pm

I am P.O'd the bank made a huge error, thank goodness I keep all my receipts. Just so happen I made a cash deposit for $146.15 just so happen I have all this free time at work and checked my account balances and low and behold the deposit I made for $146.15 was not listed, now I wrote a check to transfer these fund to my EF account which will now bounce. I don't get off until 7pm and have to drive like a bat out of hell to make it home (get my receipt and then run to the bank) of course there is nothing that can be done until I get to the bank but the operator will note account (ha!) What really bugs me is I have a receipt how could she (teller) generate one with out the actual deposit (transaction being made)

7:46 Pm update
Went to the bank after work around 6pm (closes at 8)of course there is nothing that can be done until Monday
but if I owed them I am sure it would have been taken care of ASAP so now I sit and wait...ooh I am so angry

Most likely, the deposit was credited to another customers account. (hense a reciept...but to the wrong account number). The bank should have been able to trace the deposit using the amount...because it was an uncommon amount. You might try calling them back and asking that they trace the transaction by branch, transaction date and amount.

Otherwise, the very least they should do is correct the error, refund any fees incurred and write a letter to the company that the check will be bounced on.

    Good luck...how frustrating.

I had the reverse situation happen to me a few months ago. I am a fanatical checker of my checking account - daily, sometimes up to 3x a day. Well, one-day I logged into my account and noticed a deposit for $53.99. I racked my brain for anything that would have made the deposit amount. I couldn't come up with anything! So I called the bank (credit union) and told them that I had a deposit in my account that I had no idea how it got there. They did some checking and found out that another customer who's account was one digit different than mine had made the deposit - and it had been credited to my account! The money was out of my account by the end of that same business day.
