I am P.O'd

August 16th, 2006 at 08:52 pm

The boss of course did not do the payroll yesterday but today, so that means we won't get paid until Friday. Everyone here is upset. It's not that I really really need the money now, but I would like to have my check when it's due..if I am at work I expect my check. Then he blames it on the people who has direct deposit...hog wash. Every job that I have been on that has had direct deposit we get paid the day before payday even my part-time job but go figure

it is highly illegal not to pay people on pay day. if he got caught he would have to pay (potentially) thousands.

Yeah debtfreeme is right. My DH owns a business and is very careful about that. Payday is every other Friday, sometimes if the checks come early he will give the employees their checks early, but they don't expect it until Friday. You could call the state labor board and ask what the rules are for your state.

I think this practice of his should be reported to someone. I also think he needs to be called on it by his employees. His income may not depend on his paycheck but the rest of you depend on your money to be there when it is supposed to be and it is hard to follow any kind of a budget when it is constantly up in the air like that. Just from what you've said the last several months, I think he is a lazy man who doesn't want to be inconvenienced by doing payroll, even if it means inconveniencing everyone else who works for him. Maybe he should hire someone to do it for him and then it would be there on time. I could never have put up with that kind of situation for long, I would have been boiling and said something snarky.

Agreeing with all the other comments, and I would discuss this with the state labor board - after all, if you worked those hours, you must be paid for those hours. And if you have to show up on time, the paycheck has to show up on time.

I agree with all the other posters. I've worked a lot of jobs in my life, but I can't recall any of them doing to me what this boss is doing to you and your co-workers. What he's doing is illegal, unethical, immoral and just plain lazy. Hold his feet to the fire on this one.

thought about this some more last night.

Offer to do it for him for a little extra money.

After you talk to your state personnel board and let them know what is going on tell him you would be happy to take over doing this for him to ensure he is in compliance and to avoid having to be fined. In some instances the state can step in and make the employeer sub it out which would require him to pay even more. by the way, when you call the board (and you should) ask about possible adverse action he can take. do not be afraid of it. you can do this and you should. he is taking advantge of you and your other employees and breaking the law. he is breaking the law. remember that.

i will help you with research or whatever for your state board. protect yourself and know the law. What state are you from?

Yoou guys are all right, however I payperiod ends on the 14th and the 28th and he has 2 days after this date topay us. This time he was out of town and of course there is no one else who handles the payroll. No one complains because the work is easy ( I know this is no excuse) but I do plan on approaching him regarding the issue
