Creepy

February 26th, 2009 at 03:02 am

I went to the library today and this guy sat at my table, it may not have bothered me as much but he kept staring at me which gave me the creeps. The funny thing is he sat there the entire time staring at me. So after about 45 minutes I decided to leave and look for the security guard to walk me to my car, but of course she was no where to be found. Any how I made sure my keys were in hand and headed to my car constantly looking in back of me. When I got to my car and pulled out I saw this car flash their lights and a hand stick out I thought you have got to be kidding me this can not be this guy. But it was a woman who sat across from me at a different table and said she followed me out because she did not like the way the guy was staring at me. She said it creeped her out. I thought that was so nice of her. She said she thought at first it was my boyfriend but then she notice we were not talking and he kept staring at me. Wow it is so nice to know that there are people out there who really cares
On a different note today was a NSD so $2 was added to the challenge/house fund

Yeah, I can understand how that would be creepy.

Especially since he wouldn't even bother saying anything. I mean, seriously, at least say something if you're going to be "like that".

I have to admit, that's one problem guys don't typically face.

I would mention this to the library security guard.Perhaps you are not the only person he has done this to, and the next person may not be so fortunate. Creepy is right!

Next time I would stick around for the Security Guard and wait for an obvious escort out. I totally agree that it was nice that the woman made sure you got out. And have your cell phone in your hand next time, too. Hope today is free of creepies!

At best, that guy lacks some basic manners or is badly socialised. At worst, he is a potential physical/sexual attacker.

I think the best thing would be to mention the incident to the Security Guard next time you're in the library - that's what she's paid to deal with. Also, it wasn't "just" you - that other lady was freaked out on your behalf !! As mentioned above... what a nice thoughtful lady !!!

It's nice to be reminded that there a lot of caring people still about.

I got chills reading this! Definitely mention it to the security guard. Hopefully it won't happen again, but it might not hurt to get a cell phone picture of the creep. I would have moved after 5 minutes, not 45! And, I'm not a confrontational person, but I might have asked him why he was staring at me, thinking that sometimes just acknowledging them takes the "fun" out of it. But I don't know, that might have been a bad idea too.

Holy cow... I would definitely have been freaked-out! How did you go that long without asking him what he needed?

I'm also glad that there was a nice lady aware of what was going on and cared enough to make sure you were okay.

If there's a next time, find that security guard.

I'm glad you are okay and agree that this is very creepy.

Was this at your college campus library? Many college campuses have escort systems you can call for an escort after dark - check to see if yours does.

I volunteer my time to teach a women's self defense class called Rape Aggression Defense (RAD for short) which is offered at very low or no cost on many college campuses. It is also offered in communities. Go to www.rad-systems.com and click on the program locater to see if there is one in your area. If you don't see one, you might try contacting the state or regional director listed on the site as the program locator tool may not be completely current. RAD is a hands-on self defense class. The difference I see in the women who take my class is incredible in terms of confidence and empowerment.

Finally, I agree with the others that you should report the incident to the library security next time you are there so that they can keep their eyes out.

Thanks every one, I am definitely going to speak with the manager and the guard when I go Monday night. And you know I never even considered waiting for someone to walk me out the only thing that was on my mind was getting out of there. Skydivingchic this was the county library, and Snoopycool normally I would say something but he freaked me out so bad, I just thought I should keep my mouth shut
    Thanks again

Amber, next time that happens, please don't wait. Even if you are not sure if someone really is staring at you or not, and for what purpose, just go ahead and get up and go to somewhere safer.

On the flip side of the coin, I've met a lot of very socially-challenged but well-meaning guys over the internet that have had problems trying to "break the ice" with women.

Granted, it doesn't help that they have a lot of screwwed-up beliefs about women and the "mating dance", but uh.... Deep down, these kind of guys are not dangerous. Just misguided.

One of their "tactics", if you will, is to simply engage in eye contact to project implied interest. They might even smile! And then they're suppose to do this until they get back a return smile of implied interest from you, where they will then move on to the next step and approach you with some kind of pre-defined greetings.

Hahaha. Yeah, corny I know, but that's just what they believe in.... Of course, the plan will fail miserably if all they do is end up sending "the creepy vibes".
