First Holiday Gift Card

November 3rd, 2014 at 12:47 am

I notice that over the years, I have always spent money on my BF kids during Christmas, but as of last year no more.

I would buy for his his kids, my nieces, nephews and God-daughter. I often thought what a waste of money. He can add my name to the gifts he buys and vice versesa. He never bought for my nieces and nephews so I'm okay with it. Nor did he buy for my parents, I often bought for his. It's crazy what I would spend during the holidays, but times are changing and as Dave Ramsey says, " I want to live live like no else so that later I can live like no one else."

I earned enough points to purchase a $25 Macy's gift card for my niece and a $25 Toys R Us gift card for my nephew. Two down and three to go.

I'll cash in my Humana points for a Target gift card to but my God-daughter, and two other nephews their gifts and then I am done.

Can you give your BF a heads up so he can tell his kids?

Yes, prioritize the gifts. Kids often get plenty from just parents and grandparents and those actually related to them.

Wonderful realization that gift giving can be shared and enjoyed. Gift cards are ideal for niece & nephew and I'm sure much appreciated. We've a family tradition of making some gifts or some part of a gift of you have any hobby or items you like to make. Our extended family has cut back on holiday events and giving as it was getting to be overwhelming from time, effort and enjoyment. We've a history of 'Christmas Club' to control spending but I think pressure from work and household demanded cut backs. The holidays need to be enjoyed by all without a January whiplash of bills.

Wowitsawonderfullife, yes I have informed him since the start of the year. It's simply too much.
Actually, his sister came up with a secret santa exchange last year, that way you only had to buy one gift but no one wanted to participate. I thought it was a great idea.

I love the thought of creating traditions. It's hard to get the BF onboard but I decided to do it anyway.
At 40 this year was the first time I ever carved a pumpkin, I'll be doing it every year.

For thanksgiving I decided to creat a thankful tree. Each day I'll add a leaf that says what I'm thankful for. And, December we have our annual get together with friends.
