RCA vs IPod

November 19th, 2006 at 05:16 pm

I bought an RCA mp3 player yesterday for my trip to GA this week. I like it but I think I may return and save a little here and there with the IPod. My player has an FM tuner and hold about 320 songs but I am unable to dock it to anything, if I am not mistaken with the IPod you can hood it up in the car and easier to navaigate. I hate the fact that I have to plug in order to delete files. We'll see

Yes, you will find much better aftermarket accessory support for the Ipod. This includes car kits for the Ipod. Lots of nice ones out there for a few hundred bills.

However, if you want universal connectivity and don't mind a wire or two hanging loosely around your dash, then I recommend getting an aftermarket CD player that has an auxiliary audio input jack (usually 1/8" headphone like jack, except it goes in instead of out). That way, you should be able to run a male to male audio cable from pretty much any MP3 player to your car.

Alternatively, if you want to forego MP3 players entirely, you can buy and install a MP3 compatible CD player. I'm not sure how reliable it would be though... considering that MP3 on CDs tend to be rather picky and you're in a vehicle that could cause quite a bit of skipping.

When it's all said and done, yes, it may be best to stay with the Ipod, especially if you want really good integration and controls for your car.
