My ex's family

They are pathetic. His mom has been on welfare since I can remember and is not making an effort to get off. His sister is pregnant with her 4th child and four different fathers and of course she is on welfare and is not making an effort to get off. His youngest sister who is 17 just had her second child at least this is the same father but of course she is on welfare and like all of them including the parents has not finished high school. Now he is in jail (my ex) but here is the kicker and the point of my venting his dad who never calls to say hello called me up because he needs a loan. Mind you he supposedly is a roofer who never has a roof to fix. He does more riding around more than any one I know. Grant it times are slow due to the housing market but what about before the slump. I have lent or should I say gave him money in the past in which he has never given back and I refuse to give him money again. I just don't get it, at his age would or shouldn't he and his wife want more? My ex mother in law once said to me that she bought 7 book bags for her grandson because she wanted his book bags to match his clothes and yet her light were off. Go figure just a bunch of losers

    Wow. Um, I have my share of gripes about my ex's family, but I think yours win out against mine.

    Despite of it all, I hope that you are able to keep your heart pure from it all. They say the best kind of revenge is to live well. While some days are better than others, I try my best to not let them get me down.

    It's a good thing you didn't have any kids with this guy. Then I guess you'd have to keep in touch with his family. As it is, I find it disturbing that an ex-father-in-law would even dare hit you up for more money!

    Unfortunately, what works for me is to keep a distance from those who've always got their hands out. Thankfully, those types are few and far between.

    Maybe I'm wrong but I thought the Government had stopped the "Welfare for Life" programs and you could only get it for a 2 year period now? And that to get it you either had to be going to school or working?

    Sky I am not sure about that. I could be wrong or maybe it depends on ones situation. But my dad has a tenant who's not working or going to school and the kids are about 12-15 who is on welfare. I did see a documentary about 7 years ago in which the state of michigan (not sure which part) cut people off once their kids turned 5 and two kids or maybe three was the max. welfare I think should be for those who are "trying" not for the ones who think they are beating the government at their own game

    Maybe the situation is like that of my friends' husband, he is not getting welfare payments, but is on "disability". He, and his wife admits this to me, is faking a back injury and he was just awarded over $12,000 in back SSI disability payments and is now getting a monthly check for over $1200.00! Sometimes it is so tempting just to want to turn them in. My husband works a 40 hour week and brings home just a few hundred dollars more than this guy who sits around all day playing the $2,000.00 electric guitar he bought with his SS money.

    I work at a PT clinic and we see all the fakers and then they wonder why health care is so expensive. I know how you feel I had a friend once that I wanted to turn in myself...it's hard

    I Did turn someone in one time, 20 some years ago for committing welfare fraud, but I know if I did turn the guy I wrote aobut in, his sick wife and his kids would be destitute, as working is totally out of the question for him. So, I can't bring myself to do it.

    Amber: Know what you mean about the family thing. It's best to keep your distance. In Suze Orman's video, she was giving advice to a woman who was helping out the family and felt guilty when not helping out because she felt like she had so much. First thing that Suze did was to ask her how much she owed and then she said, how can you lend money to others when you are in debt? Think about that Amber. It would be good if you could see the video on channel 2 when it plays. We have all been there and she really lets us know why we have to stop helping everyone out.
