I did it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

October 29th, 2006 at 03:18 pm

I am so happy I paid off my high interest CC (30%) I am so happy ( I keep doing that). I took a look at my account and I had little more than a $10000 just sitting there earning about $3.00 a month and this high interest CC paying about $40 a month in interest so I said pay it off and I did. My goal is to be debt free by December 31st and atleast $3000 in the EF. Now that this CC is paid off I can really start saving. I am going to write the CC company and ask them to remove any activity on my credit report regarding this cc. I was never late always paid on time as well as paying more than the minium, but I closed this account which I am sure will have a negative affect on my score...we'll see

Previous CC total: $2255.91
New Ttoal :$1242.93

closing accounts does have a negative effect on your credit score. also, i don't know if they can take anything that is not true off your credit report, why would you want it off anyway? you paid off your debt and in time too. why wouldn't you want that on your report?

Thanks guys I really appreciate all your support. Eric the reason I wanted it removed was because I had closed it, I thought since it was closed paid it would hurt my scores vs paid and open ...I guess I will have to wait and see

The numbers threw me off a bit. Did you have 10k or 1k in your account? That and I also think it probably best to leave the account open.

Well, it doesn't matter. It's still cause for celebration!

You can simply request that the CC company report to the credit reporting agencies that the account was closed at your request. That is enough to show that they didn't close it.

I know a lot is made over closing accounts lowering your credit score but its not really that big a deal as its only one card. If you aren't going to finance any major purchases in the next year or so, it won't really effect anything. By the time a year or two passes whatever it did to your rating should reverse itself, especially if you stay on your responsible tack of paying off debt and saving money. Leaving it open would be more detrimental to you, because the temptation to use it would always be there.

    Congratulations on paying it off.
