For girls only

May 8th, 2007 at 08:40 pm

I am 33 and lately at night I am either sweating to death or freezing, could I actually be going through the changes? Is this normal for my age? This is insane, I hate feeling like this

I would say no your'e not. Usually only hot flashes if you are. Believe me!!! Frown Hopefully your'e not getting sick. If this continues, maybe you should see a doctor for confirmation.

I am thinking thyroid?? I'm 49 and just starting with the hot flashes, but I am rarely cold.

It's perfectly normal. It is called perimenopause (or pre- menopause, our "sneak peek") and it can start in your early 30's. A whacko thermostat to go with the whacko hormones is just what the doctor ordered! Don't worry, just hang on for the long ride! Smile Coming up in a few years your cycle will go whacko too. Yee ha!

I just wanted to add - You may be, but you may not be.

    Isn't it confusing?

The best thing to do is question - your mother, grandmothers, aunts and try to gauge when these changes begin in your family.

My family has a history of early changing in the 30's.

I also suggest you run to the library and pick up a book on peri-meni. There is much help and explainations out there. Plus, a boat load of ways to help with dealing with symptoms. Drugfree.

I want to recommend two sites

    girlsgetgoing.com

    hystersisters.com

They are great sites and offer advice on almost anything.

Homebody, you maybe right I never thought about thyroids. As a kid I was told I had low thyroids and should be taking Synthroid and of course I don't.

Unfortunately I am not comfortable speaking with my mom when it comes to women issues. She told me when I got my cycle at 12 that if I played with boys (key word played) I would get pregnant, I was scared to death because my playmates were boys Frown
Thanks Nita I will checkout those sites

Okay well that's probably it. When did you last have your thyroid checked? And why didn't you take it?

My mother needs to take thyroid medication and she won't and it is seriously effecting her thinking ability.

My niece has taken it since she was a teenager.

  9. Amber Says:

It has been well over 15 years since my thyroids were check, I am following up with my MD
