Poor lady

January 18th, 2007 at 04:18 am

I am here watching the news and there was a contest in which a woman drank so much water she had water poison. The point of the contest was to drink as much water as possible with out going to the bathroom well her lungs filled up with water and she basically died from water poison. How sad

Yes, the infamous "Hold your wee for a wii" radio contest that's making the rounds all over the internet.

Some 10 people got fired for this, and the program that held the contest was suspended... possibly indefinitely.

At first, I thought it was excessive.... That is, until I heard a sound clip of the contest where a caller called up and warned them of water intoxication. Yes, the caller actually said that, and the DJ made some snarky remark about them being aware of it but all the contestants have signed some kind of waiver so they're protected.

After that, I'm thinking they'll be lucky if all that's happened to them is getting canned.

i heard about this too, and first thing i thought was "didn't they hear the news story about the guy who died from fraternity hazing involving drinking water?" i know it wasn't that long ago if i remember it, surely someone there remembered it too!

Wow I did not know some one actually called in about this, I have heard of this years ago maybe when I was in high school. And the hazing thing I have not heard of that, apparently some guy was in the contest and stop because he started feeling terrible...all this for a game

I hope they bring charges or at least heavily fine the radio station. Yes, it was stupid for people to compete on something like this, when in this day and age everyone should know about water intoxication, and yes, they signed wavers, but it resulted in death. And if the DJ's said they were aware of it and did not stop it when it became life-threatening, than they are just as responsible for the death as the woman who killed herself.
