Wednesday Rambling

September 18th, 2019 at 07:31 pm

I had so much to do today after work, I ended up not going to bible study and then it was canceled.

When I got home, I swept 🧹 the patio. I’m trying to keep it clean, there’s a tree 🌳 I need cut down, that thing drops so many leaves 🍁 it drives me nuts. Anyway after sweeping the patio, I fired up the grill. Seasoned my potatoes 🥔 with red and green bell peppers 🌶 , onion, a little olive oil and ranch salad dressing. Then placed them on the grill.

Next I took two chicken breast and cut them in half making four, and marinated in zesty Italian dressing. While the potatoes were on the grill I got my cardio in 🚶🏾‍♀️.
Came back and threw the chicken on.

When I tell you everything was absolutely delicious 😋, I impressed myself. The potatoes were to die for. Lol. I’m liking the whole grilling thing.

After that, I washed my hair 💇🏽 I have an event after work tomorrow and wanted my hair to be half way decent.

The plan was to come home and clean the guest bathroom but SO came by to help me put the desk out. Long story short, I hadn’t bought the containers to pack things in so the desk is still here. I wish I knew someone who needed one. We sat out side, first time ever in 8 years, just chatting.

In financial news, went to Walmart and stuck with my list, potatoes 🥔 and peppers. I almost bought a vacuum but it rang up incorrectly, $30+ when it should have been $15. The worker couldn’t get the price to change and needed to call a manager, I decided it wasn’t a must and left it. I realized, I had no money left in my house envelope, therefore I would have had to take the money from my fun envelope. Next week I wanted to do a little shopping 🛍 , looking for a mirror for the hallway, so it was not worth me spending the $15. I’ll rework the next pay period budget to add the $15. I’m proud of myself for this.

I got the electric ⚡️ bill today and it actually decreased, by $9, yay. I’d been turning off the lights 💡 that we’re not in use, started grilling vs using the oven to cook, line drying my clothes vs the dryer and turning the AC off at night. I started this about midway through my billing cycle, I think if I’d started earlier I would have saved more. We’ll see next month.

The water bill also decreased by I think $20. Now I’m waiting on the internet bill to decrease.

Other than that, that’s all I have to report.

Love My Life

September 16th, 2019 at 06:34 pm

Other than a few managers sending my pressure up, it was a good day.

I got up, completed my devotional, had a little praise and worship before work.
While at work, I got a ton of things done.

Finally got my tires rotated, after leaving the office. Once I got home, I walked 🚶🏾‍♀️ for about 30 minutes, cleaned the girl and then relaxed.

I so love 💕 my new life, I feel at peace.

In financial news, I didn’t spend anything today. Friday is pay day, I can’t wait to see how well I’ve done this budget period

Pretty Good Sunday

September 15th, 2019 at 09:21 am

Today so far has been a good day.

First I went to church, the service was absolutely amazing.

Then headed over to BJs to schedule a tire rotation and balance, trying to get in contact with some one there via phone ☎️ is like pulling teeth.

Next, I headed over to my mom’s. I had mentioned that as I buy new towels, I’ll be buying white. Well she had a few almost new towels in white for me.

Got home put one load of laundry 🧺 in the washer, and hung them out to dry. Then I swept 🧹 and mopped the floors, took me a hour to do the entire house except for the guest bathroom 🚽 and room. I’ve decided rather than doing it all at once, twice a week I need to break this task up.

Once the laundry dries, I’ll put the pork chops on the grill. I don’t want the smoke 💨 on my clothes. Yesterday I was a little discouraged but I’m hopeful that getting use to grilling it will be beneficial, like reduction in electric, and healthier eating.

Lunch, was left over hot dog 🌭 and dinner will be grilled chops with baked beans.

Today so far has also been another no spend day 😀

SO Update

September 15th, 2019 at 01:09 am

Yesterday SO came by to put the grill together and I also think, he just needed peace. I’m okay with that. He’s come to terms that we will not be getting together, he mentions going home, where before he’d say my place was his home. He also doesn’t try to kiss me goodbye. We just chat.

I’m glad we separated for his sake. A few things 1) he realizes that his mom is dysfunctional, he’s actually said this 2) he realizes that the sister lies to him 3) he realizes that the daughter is extremely lazy and the neice well that’s a different story.

He’d expressed his frustration that he had to shell out all this money (mom not paying bills) and that he couldn’t afford a haircut but yet the mom had the money to go to a salon 💇🏽 for a hair appointment.

I told him, if it was me, I’d get a list of household bills that’s due every month. Secondly, I’d either give the neice (she lives with the grandmother, his mother) a few bills or charge rent. Then I’d send every client a letter, letting them know that all checks should be written to my business and open a PO Box to have the mail sent (the mother opens his mail, and cash his checks). Then I’d get with the accountant to set up payroll and mom would get $50 a week for spending. The daughter with the baby would get a damn job. He says he’s moving things along but who knows he’s so afraid of hurting the mom’s feelings it’s ridiculous. I do think he’s going to blow a head gasket though I’m afraid the stress of things may give him a heart attack or a stroke.

One thing I was surprised to hear is that he’s finally trying to take care of the child support mess. He’s been paying support to the ex wife for um 10 years, for kids he had custody of. Don’t ask me why. He couldn’t afford to hire an attorney so he’s been doing everything on his own. I’m praying it works out for him, that should free up a ton of money for him. I honestly think he just couldn’t afford an attorney (mom doesn’t pay him) and had been putting things off. With the move he realizes this is money wasted. Well I think he already knew but the move put a fire under him.

I’m definitely praying for him. He’s a nice guy, too nice

First Time Grilling

September 14th, 2019 at 04:56 pm

Today was a no spend day, yay.

SO came by and put my grill together. I’m so glad to have this little baby, I’m thinking I should start saving money by grilling.

I’ve never grilled anything. Tonight it’s hot dogs 🌭. I’d bought them (hot dogs) when we thought the storm was coming and figured no need in letting them go to waste. I’ve had the grill now for about five years, previous storm purchase. I almost bought another one because I didn’t want to use this one, stupid, and wasteful, but I’ve opted to use what I have.

I also relaxed today, no cleaning, just a well rested Saturday. I have a table next to the bed with miscellaneous items, as I reached for my iPad 📱 $20 fell out. Lol all I could do was laugh, I felt like God rewarded me for being a good steward with His money.

I also took a look at the budget and so far I’m doing well. I notice that the first check in October I should have an extra $300, it’s going to CC10. I’d pause the debt repayment due to the unexpected legal fee but I’m ready to kick things back up.

Right now I’m just sitting on the porch enjoying this Saturday night waiting for my hot dogs to finish

Cutting Expenses

September 12th, 2019 at 07:05 pm

I decided to treat myself to lunch, $8.51 and it was delicious. I’ve been doing really well with not spending.

I had found a gift card when I was decluttering a few weeks ago and used it, to purchase a tv 📺 antenna. I’m actually okay with the channels I’m able to receive, about 19-20, and they’re channels that I do watch. I bought the cheaper version to test out. Maybe later I’ll get a different one for the living room. My goal is to cut an expense each month.

After setting up the antenna, I washed my porch and windows 🏡. I do not want the patio to get too dirty again. I also, pulled the weeds out and raked up my small area of property I have. What I’ve found is that if I do a little during the week, I can relax on the weekends. Tomorrow it’s the bathroom, floors and two load of laundry 🧺 , then that’s it.

I checked to see if the water 💦 bill was released, and it was, it actually decreased to $45.68, that’s $21.09 from last month. I’m hoping the electric bill decreases as well. The extra savings on the water bill is going towards the EF. I have to get this back up so that I can start back on the CC 💳.

Cable

September 11th, 2019 at 08:04 pm

You know today was a good day, not one dime spent. I was tempted but nothing. I’ll admit, it’s tough, but I have to remind my self of the end goal.

Other news, I’m a little annoyed because I’d cancel my cable, and with it was a free subscription to HBOGo, because cell phone service, and it came with it. I’d called the provider, to see if I could still access it and was told no. Well long story short, I got a text this evening, giving me the option to keep it with my phone service 🙄🤦🏽‍♀️. Though I normally don’t watch HBO, it is great to have it now since the channels I receive are limited.

I found a gift card so tomorrow I’ll be buying an antenna for the TV 📺, I’m hoping to get a few local channels.

Sinking Funds and Other Stuff

September 10th, 2019 at 01:55 am

So apparently SO mother had allowed the insurances on the vehicles to lapse since May, so he’s been driving around with no insurance since May (personal and commercial vehicles). Her license had been suspended since July, so she’s been driving with no insurance and a suspended license, with the grandson in the car. WTF!

If this is not a wake up call for him to takeover the business and everything else then I don’t know what is. Actually I do know, I’m so glad I’m not apart of that dysfunction. I’m not sure WTF he won’t put his foot down with this woman. But hey

In financial news, I checked the sinking fund for the car, and realized that I’m close to $1,000, just about $400 away. Initially the account was set up for car repairs, and insurance. But I pay my insurance monthly, and knock on wood there hasn’t been any repairs needed.

I need an oil change and normally I’d use this account, but since I have more than enough in my cash envelopes ✉️ I’ll use the money from there.

Seeing this account grow, has made me feel really good. One, because in the past, I’ve always used a CC to repair the car and now there’s cash. And two, I realize I can actually save cash for a new to me car. As you all know, my Camry has about 255k miles on it. She runs great! But I know it’s just a matter of time. My goal now is to save about $5-8k for my next Camry.

Next, I splurged on household items and took the money from home repairs, this sucks but now I’m back on track. I need to know that this account is not for home decor but repairs. I was going to get the accordions for the window, but will wait until hurricane season is over. I have the plywood and right now rates are sure to be higher. I’ll still get the quotes so that I know where I stand, and can save for them.

I must say, I have a sinking fund for everything, but I love it! I love the idea of saving just a little to have a lot later and paying cash 💰 for things. Patience surely is a virtue

No Spend Day

September 9th, 2019 at 06:25 pm

Today was a great day, day two and I didn’t spend anything.

Had breakfast at home; packed my lunch and have mac n cheeses 🧀 for dinner. I’m so excited about cutting expenses, I can scream.

That’s it; hope everyone had a good day.

Cutting Expenses

September 8th, 2019 at 04:18 pm

Well today was great, I finally tackled the pillows I was making for the patio and they turned out great. I have to get a few pots to plant a a few flowers to tie things in. Next it’s the spare bedroom. I told the SO it’s time to come and get the rest of his things, 30-days is more than enough time.

For dinner, I took the left over chicken and made chicken pot pie, this will be my lunch and dinner for the next few days.

I also unplugged a few more items in the house, one being the Keurig, I don’t even drink coffee, if the SO don’t take it I’m selling it. Signed up for auto pay, knocking $10 off my internet bill. I’m going to save up and buy a wifi tower so I don’t have to rent AT&T’s 🙄🤦🏽‍♀️

I’m desperately trying to figure out how to cut expenses.

Sunday Ramblings

September 8th, 2019 at 08:31 am

Today so far has been great.
Hit the grocery store and only bought what was on the list. I was tempted to buy other unnecessary things but the cash envelopes ✉️ said no.

I really want some fall decor for the house 🏡 but, opted not to purchase anything. Saving money is the goal and I need hurricane 🌪 shutters.

I came home and balanced a few accounts. I’m glad that rather than putting things off, I’ve been adding the transactions daily. Updated the cash envelopes and now I’m just relaxing. Later I’ll put a load of laundry 🧺 in. I’m thinking I should now, since it’s so hot and I can line dry.

I have left over chicken 🐔 from the storm ⛈ that I’ll cut up and make chicken pot pie 🥧. Ibotta had $.75 cash back on two bags of frozen vegetables 🌽, well Birds Eye was a $1 a bag at Walmart so for two it can’t out to $1.25. Not bad. There was a time I’d throw this chicken away.

Lastly I spent $22 on gas ⛽️, not bad. Last week, I saved on gas because I did not have to travel to and from work. I’m hoping to convince my boss by next year to allow me to work one day a week from home.

Oops I unplugged those cable boxes that I no longer use and changed the air filter.

Update
I literally put a load of clothes outside to dry and in about 30 minutes they’re almost dry, wow

Finally

September 7th, 2019 at 01:34 pm

I finally got the plywood off the windows. SO helped me get them off. I placed a call to get a quote for the accordions, the plywood is too much work and is extremely exhausting.

We covered the wood in tarp, so that they won’t warp. I’m glad we have been doing this because I’ve had this wood now for three years. If I’m able to get the accordions, I’m going to sell the wood $20-$25 a piece, but you have to take all.

So far it’s been a no spend day, so I’m happy with that

As the SO Turns

September 7th, 2019 at 12:46 am

I’d mentioned that the SO would lose it by February of 2020, one my prayer partners said October. Well it looks like I was or could be wrong.

Yesterday he stopped by to drop something off and to let me know he’d be here Saturday to take the plywood down. He’d mentioned he had a rough day. I asked what happened and he responded, “you’re going to say I told you so.” I immediately knew it was the mother. Long story short, he’s been riding around with no insurance on any of the vehicles, including the company vehicles 🤦🏽‍♀️🙄. The mother had allowed the insurance to lapse, and basically the company they were with told him/them no thanks but we don’t want your business. Honestly I didn’t even feel bad, all I could think about was, thank God you don’t live with me, where I would have had to deal with this foolishness.

He mentioned that he went off on her, told her this was why we broke up, because he couldn’t be a man in his house and be responsible, that he’s always late paying bills. She then asked him, why he didn’t tell her, he said he responded that he shouldn’t have to. This also let me know, she hadn’t paid him once again.

Anyway he said she started crying, and he told her to stop 🤬 crying. I knew he was ticked, because when ever she cries, or says she can’t deal with it, he has the tendency to stop talking, walk away and leave. She manipulates him, but yesterday he just didn’t want to hear it. I was quite surprised with his response to her crying, actually I’m still shock that he even told her to shut the you know what up.

He told me he told her he wants everything, control of the business and all bills in the home. He said he also told her, that she wasn’t going to like what he was about to say, but he believe that her stroke (last week) happened for a reason.

Anyway, though, I’m confident I don’t want that mess in my life, I couldn’t help but feel like a proud mother of the son who finally stood up to the bully. The woman is mentally unstable I think, but then again, she has a way of manipulating him, so she must not be too crazy. I’m curious to see if he really takes control of everything.

Just another episode of “As the SO Turns”

In financial news, I managed to sock away some savings yesterday, I’m happy about that. I also only spent $5.85 yesterday on a broom and salt 🧂. I found out that salt keeps the frogs 🐸 off my patio. I can’t wait for the fall, so that I can sit out there, with some music 🎶 and wine 🍷.

Saturday, the only thing on my agenda is removing the plywood and a football game. I had bought season tickets to my alma mater home games, it was $10 a ticket so $60 for six. Not bad, it gives me something fun to do at a reasonable cost. I don’t want to be so tight with things that I miss opportunities.

Now that I’m single, I want to do things that I’ve put off, I’ll admit, I’m a little nervous about going to an event by myself, but at the same time I look forward to it. Next week, the company that I work for has its fund raising kickoff, and then the following week I’ll be attending a free, HR happy hour.

Lastly, my birthday is coming in January, I may have over budget my sinking fund for Christmas (no buying gift for SO), I’m thinking with the left money 💰 I can book a three day cruise 🚢 for my birthday. Or pay down debt 🙄🤦🏽‍♀️. I’ll see.

Pay Day

September 6th, 2019 at 02:25 am

Well today was pay day, all bills are paid. That includes $70 for internet; $50 on the plot I am purchasing next to dad; $196 tithes; and a savings of $944, about 48% of my income, not bad. The savings amount actually include October’s mortgage payment, so in reality it’s actually about 16% of my income.

The only items pending payments are the car 🚗 insurance, and student loans, both are scheduled for autopay next week.

Looking at how much I’m able to sock away in a percentage gives me motivation. I realize that the bulk of my income goes towards debt and by paying these suckers off I can increase my savings. It’s been a journey, with a little set back but I’m back on track.

I’ve been monitoring my electric bill, not sure why it’s going up since I always turn the air off when I leave for work, and at night before bed. I’m budgeting for a few energy efficient light bulbs 💡, hopefully this will help. I also want a few smart plugs for the tv. Now that I think about it, I need to unplug 🔌 a few things that I’m not using. I’ll start air drying a few items vs the using the dryer as well.

Cleaning

September 5th, 2019 at 05:41 pm

What a day.

Work was slow and yet busy.
Spent, $4.98 on groceries, tomorrow is pay day. I tried updating MSMoney and I’m running into a hard time with this software, I guess because it’s discontinued.

I was able to find a Google budget sheet, but nothing like Money.

I came home, washed a load of clothes, mopped 🧼 the floors and cleaned off the patio. I didn’t want to spend my entire Saturday cleaning so I decided I’ll do a little here and there.

I realized that I’m a clean freak, lol

Update

September 3rd, 2019 at 07:26 pm

Checking in, the storm ⛈ missed us, I’m happy and yet sad, about the impact it has had on the Bahamas 🇧🇸. This has been one exhausting week.

Today I tried balancing my accounts via MSMoney and everything was off (opening balances), I’m not sure why because I’ve been balancing these accounts for months. I ended up closing and reopening, it sucks because I don’t have an accurate account of my spending. 🙄🤦🏽‍♀️

I also took a look at my budget, and revamped. Based on the new budget at the end of the month, I should have $600 left over. This will go to the EF to beef it back up.

It’s back to work tomorrow, fingers crossed it’s not chaotic

Checking In

September 2nd, 2019 at 05:02 am

Hi all 👋🏾

I’m out of the cone of error, thank God. My area is still expected to experience tropical storm force winds later today. We are starting to get some rain.

Thanks for your prayers

Update

September 1st, 2019 at 11:01 am

Just checking in with everyone, the storm slightly moved west, so we are bunkering down. S/he is now a category 5 storm.

We’ve boarded up the house, I’ll be turning the ac down and I’m putting the solar lights out soon.

Some jerk put out old furniture on the curbside

I think I’m ready
