What a day

What a day from Hell, I had to leave work only after about 3.5 hours because my mom was watching over my nephew who tried some sort of drug with a friend and began hallucinating. My sister would not answer her phone at work so I kept calling her cell phone she would pick up but not say a word and then hang up, finally I said to her I am taking M to South County ( mental institute ) and she needed to come (he is her son).

What the Hell are these kids thinking? I am so annoyed with him, because he never gave any trouble and now he is doing this stupid crap. Now I know he has a learning disability and he reads on a 6 grade level I think and because of that coupled with being picked on in school he has low self esteem. And why is it that people do not teach their kids that making fun of is the same as bulling and can cause a ton of problems

    Amber, I hope everything works out for your nephew. I have wondered the same thing about why people don't teach their kids to not bully.

    Oh dear, I hope things will work out for your nephew. My brother is DD and when he was growing up (which means until he was about 30) he was quite vulnerable to peer pressure and we had to watch like a hawk who he hung around with. Special Olympics was really a positive influence in my brother's life, because it was filled with good kids (who were "different" like him and so there was no picking on), and it taught him discipline, self-respect, and respect for others.

    It sounds like you nephew is trying to "self-medicate" himself. Since you didn't state his age maybe he is at an age where he realizes he is "different" than other kids his age and is having problems dealing with it? My son is only 8 has a form of autism and ADHD and is slowly beiginning to realize things about himself and I worry so much about him doing things like that when he gets older.

    Is your nephew in Special Ed. at his school or has the school recognized him as "disabled" yet. I think it is called an IEP or 504 plan. If not maybe you can check into it for him or have someone do it. Once he is in those categories they have to especially see none of his rights are being violated and I am sure bullying would fall under those. I'd make sure a conference with the school was planned and once the word "lawyer" was mentioned you can bet any abuse he is suffering at school would be stopped immediately.

    Thanks for the warm thoughts, he is 19 and today I bought a jornal and a young adult book which I thought he may like; so I'll drop it off. He did graduate but he did not receive what they call a real diploma Frown poor thing he graduated last year but I think now he wants to do more than wash dishes and it is really starting to take a toll because he now realizes he's entered into the real world. And it did not help that my sister babied him along the way and that he was really pushed through school

    I hope he can come to some kind of peace with himself. You are a good auntie to take such good care of him!
