wait until you hear this

January 14th, 2008 at 02:24 am

My boss (owner) decided that he wanted more than on person looking at past due balances (basically I got a minor promotion) the office manager is who was/is responsible pretty much slacks. So any way there is this new lady who calls patients that I give her to bill because the office manager writes them off. So to make a long story short, she calls this patient who has a balance due, and ask the patient to "borrow' yep "borrow" the money form her parents. Can you believe this? Not how much can you pay, or are you able to make monthly payments, I thought that was terrible and down right rude. She saw nothing wrong with it. Grant it the money is due but I just could not see myself asking another person to borrow the money from their parents. Maybe it is just me

I hope you reported that to the boss. That is totally inappropriate and may even be considered harassment. There are laws regarding what collection folks can and can't do and I would say that one crosses the line.

You know DS I did not say anything because he has been terrible lately when it comes to money and in his eyes as long as it is collected he is ok. The sad thing is he was never like this before, I have no idea why he has changed

I guess they are really putting pressure on him to bring in the money. Lots of companies are doing this in light of the condition of the economy. Keep your chin up!

Back in the day, when I was buried by debt - this type of request was made on me - often. Not just by one creditor but by all.

I'm guessing must be in the collection training book.

I agree 100% with Dedicated. I saw a program about bill collectors and their predatory tactics and asking/telling the debtor to borrow the money from a family member, friend, etc. was definitely the norm.
