Murphy Strikes

January 27th, 2015 at 10:26 pm

Okay I started my savings again and was able to sock away $457 in less than a month. Well Murphy came to visit last night.

On my way home from work my car started to shake, engine light began to flash and it felt as though I was going to cut off. Fast forward and the cost to repair $487. Mom actually put the cost on her CC and I am to give her the money back. She ask that I wait until the bill came. Frown

So I'll have to start all over again with my 52 week challenge next month.

Dad gave me $13 ( all the ones he had) plus he ask me to pay a bill and the difference was $11 left. So I added $24 to my 52 Week/$20 Challenge.

Well, at least you had most of the money saved for the expense. That is better than having saved nothing and still needing the money. It sucks, though, to not be able to keep what you worked so hard to save.

I agree with LuckyRobin, better to have saved and started those habits and have the money. The other way around doesn't work too well long term.

I agree with the others - if you hadn't worked hard to put that money away, you would be further behind now than before. At least now you are still fairly even.

That Murphy...what a hard pill to swallow. Glad the car is fixed and that you will be even more motivated to rebuild that challenge. Good on you to get past this bump and move forward

I'm sorry you have to drain your savings so soon. But isn't it incredible that the amount you need is almost exactly the amount you had saved? Since you don't need to pay your mom back until the bill comes, maybe you can save the extra $30 by then. I think using your savings rather than borrowing is a huge success!

Ah, darn it! Car break downs are crazy-making when there is little back up! Keep your head up and keep going.

So sorry to hear it! You'll get your savings back up though, if you saved the money once you can do it again. Maybe you can find a way to replenish what you saved? Spend a month paying back as much as you can? (Because if you didn't have that moneyin savings it would be coming out of your pocket)

    Bummer!
Good thing you had some savings to cover it and not have to make more debt. Smile
