I'll pass on dinner

November 5th, 2017 at 01:14 am

My sorority anniversary is coming up. The girls decided to go to an up scale steak house, so I decided to check out the menu and everything is a la carte.

For me alone dinner, will be close to $60+ and I'm not in the mood to spend that nor can I afford it. Even if I budgeted for it, I'd have to cut something else out, and my budget is already tight. I say to myself what Dave Ramsey says, "live like no one else, so that you can live like no one else."

I'm starting early with the Christmas shopping. I found a men sports coat for $37 for the fiancΓ© at Macy's. I buy him one every year. I have a 30% off coupon for tomorrow, but I budgeted to purchase the coat the next zero balance budget period. I was tempted to order but it's called discipline, I'm sure they'll be more coupons between now and the 15th.

I'll be ordering the $25 myPoints Macy's gift card and providing this to my neice as her Christmas gift.

The boys (nephews) I have no clue what to get them. They're ages are 5, 7, 7 and 13. I haven't bought my mom a gift in about 8 years. The woman is so ungrateful and she always seem to manage to hurt your feelings when you do. I'm considering getting her something but I don't know.

Are the boys from two families? Could you give a family gift of movies or Netflix rentals? As a parent, I've always liked gifts that are consumable, will be used up, or are an experience. I'd also consider asking their mothers. And mention your budget if you think it would be well received.

So you haven't bought your mother a gift for eight years because she is ungrateful. Has something changed that makes you think that she will now be thankful? Are you feeling guilty? That's not a reason to give a gift. A gift needs to come from the heart. You give it because you feel compelled to give something. If you really think you will be hurt by giving any gift, I think it's better to continue not to give her a gift. Just offer up prayers that her heart will soften.

    Good resistance to dinner out.

Get the boys a membership somewhere?

CreditCard Free I'm not feeling guilty just thinking maybe this can open the door, her eyes to be thankful for the small things. Hmmm maybe you're right, maybe it's guilt. I just want her to let go of what ever is stopping her from loving her kids and appreciate what we do for her. I don't know it's something I'm going to have to really consider.

Two of the boys share a home (5 and 7) I'm thinking about a magazine subscription for them. And the other 7 year old is their cousin, two brothers kids) who isn't picky. You can give this kid a pair of socks and he is so thankful. I may get him the subscription as well
