Job Offer

July 9th, 2021 at 11:39 am

Well I was offered a job. It’s about $5k less than I was making and way less than I wanted. I’m going to try and negotiate an additional $5k or one extra week vacation.

It’s about 7 miles from my house, so about 15 minutes with traffic, much better than the 1.5-2 hour drive, each way.

Benefits are okay, much better though than my last job.

I’ve been looking for a job since January, prior to quitting and nothing. Yes it’s an employee’s market but employers are still slow to offer and very picky.

Either way I’ll take it and keep looking until something comes along paying me what I’m looking for.

I am waiting on another employer to make a decision. I submitted my project last week and was told I should hear something by next week, fingers crossed. I gave them the range I wanted, it’s fully remote as well.

$5K less is a bit of a challenge, but I think it is offset by better benefits and less travel -- not to mention getting out of a toxic situation! Congratulations!

Congrats on the offer and I hope you can negotiate or leverage it to a situation you are happy with!

Good luck Amber! The pay might be lower but you’re gaining an extra 2-3 hours per day which is wonderful plus less fuel costs, wear and tear. Hoping it all works out and you enjoy your new lifestyle!

Better benefits are probably why the pay is lower. With fuel costs skyrocketing you'll save some there, too. Hopefully it is low stress. You could use a good work environment.

Thanks everyone for the words of encouragement. I spoke with the regional manager, she’s going to ask for more, I hope this doesn’t ruin my chance. I should hear something next week.

Getting back 3-4 hours per day is golden. I hope you get your pay matched however. That would be a win-win.

Congrats on the job....good benefits and much better commute count for a lot. But keep your intentions to accept the job close to the vest, so to speak. Try to negotiate that extra $5k for yourself, and if at first they decline or indicate a 'no,' I would gently and respectfully persist with another counteroffer of say $3K then, and in the same breath reiterate how confident you feel this job would be a great fit, etc.

Remember, $5k may seem like a lot to you, but to them it's really not, and most employ would rather not lose a good candidate over such a small amount

Hope you find the job you wish, but like you, I'd probably take this one and keep looking. That was a long commute and as terri77 says, getting those hours back is golden. Amen!
