Increased Gas = More Walking

June 2nd, 2022 at 03:55 pm

Well gas in my area hit $4.75, I’m not complaining because in other areas it’s way more, I am simply turning this negative into a positive, so I walked to the grocery store, a mile each way.

By doing this I got my cardio in, saved on gas and saved on groceries because I’m limited to what I can pick up. I also took another route which was a little short but more challenging, this helps with preparing for my upcoming trip. I’ll be doing a lot of walking on a ton of hills.

I’m happy to report the roof issue is cleared up.

I've seen people heading to our neighborhood grocery store with large wagons, enough to fit a full shopping cart's worth of groceries in and then heading home with them. And a few people just walking home with a gallon of milk and a bag of bread. This was pretty rare in the past. Also people with milk crates on the back of their bicycles, saddlebags over the back under the crate, and a basket on the front, wearing a backpack. All full of groceries. People are feeling the pinch. I'd do it if I could. I've been thinking about getting an electric trike for a while that has a big basket on the back and a basket on the front, too, but we're at least a year or two out from that.

I definitely saw the increase in gas when I did my monthly expenses for May. I pay $52 to fill up now, when it used to be less than half that. I am blessed that it doesn’t hurt my pocketbook, but I feel for those that this stretches their money. i have a lot of stores & restaurants that I can walk to, but no grocery stores. And it’s so hot & humid this time of year. πŸ₯΅
