Ready for 2023

Closing out the year in a not so good of a shape. 

 

I added both the kitchen remodel and shutters to my credit cards, brining my balance to just over $7k. One card, Home Depot, is interest free until December 2023. Shutters still isn’t complete, I have a call to company. Once complete it will be another $3k, remaining balance. 

 

I didn’t hit my EF savings goals of $5k, I just made $4k, new balance is $18k. Goal for next year to get to $27k. 

 

My bank account was hacked for about $18k but I got the money back and changed my account number. 

 

Since starting this new job I’ve been all over the place with my finances, no budgets no savings etc. I’m feeling overwhelmed. I’ve been looking for work. I hate I didn’t continue with the consulting. 

 

I took the least expensive route in redoing my kitchen, hired a friend. Though it looks okay, it is costing me more. One cabinet isn’t on properly, crown molding not added, under mount sink is hitting against the pipe, drawers are on wrong, it’s just been a mess but I’ll make do with what I have. Kitchen needed to be done because the under sink had collapsed due to water damage and other cabinets were falling apart. 

 

I’ve still been paying on my student loans but not as aggressively as I’d like. 

 

I am so ready for 2023

    I pray that 2023 is better for you and all of us. Were you doing the Dave Ramsey plan?

    Everyone I speak to dealing with contractors is dealing with headaches. Makes me grateful that I’m renting for now.

    Amber, Don't feel bad about taking the job you took rather than continue with consulting. You can always get back to the type of job you like although it may take a little time. I am sorry about your kitchen remodel not going well but glad to hear it is workable for now. Once you get back to a job you like, you can start investigating good handymen that can take care of any issues with your kitchen remodel.

    I've learned the hard way not to hire a friend to do home repairs/remodeling. Some people get lucky with that, but I sure didn't! I have a friend who always goes cheap with a handyman and who always ends up paying big, to correct the damage done. She still hasn't learned.

    Good luck for a great 2023! Just remember that while you’re not achieving your goals in the way you wanted, you’re still doing pretty well. Hoping in 2023 you pick up your old habits of budgeting and saving so you feel better about your financial position.

    Sorry things are so frustrating. Hopefully the remodel will get back on track.

    Maybe this job is just what you needed to figure out what you like/don't like as you look for other employment.

    I think a lot of us are struggling with trying to save and make ends meet and not go totally off the rails.
