Tier 1 versus Tier 2 Meds

September 18th, 2006 at 12:25 am

Previously I was paying $10.00 for generic meds now I go to the pharmacy today only to be told "$31.63 please" of course I am like excuse me well under my insurance, the plan has increase the cost of generic over brand i just do not get it. But I immediately informed the pharmacist to give me the brand. I wonder why that is?

That's weird. Our plan is just the opposite and they send out a list to let you know what's on the plan. We usually can't wait til our new brand drug is turned into generic form cos it sure is a big difference. Maybe they'll let you know what's up soon. Some big savings there!

That just sounds weird. You might want to give your insurance company a dingle and find out whether this was a computer *burp* (likely from having one too many doses of the *good* medication).

Is this exactly the same med as you had before? If its a different formulation the price increase might not be due to it being generic but due to it being an extended release or something like that.

Insurance companies and underwriters (the people who decide just how much they are gonna make you pay in premiums and deductibles etc) adore generic drugs. This does sound really odd - if it is exactly the same prescription.
