Strange

June 20th, 2007 at 04:48 pm

My brother called to borrow $500 he never borrows money; I find that to be strange. I hope everything is ok, I know he will pay me back but I just find it very strange that he would be borrowing money.

Next update, my friend whose kid's father (looser, sorry) died earlier this month, she will now get an extra $475 a month. So I suggested to her to sock away the money since she was not use to getting it anyway and was told I am going to be living it up, and once I buy my new house I plan quitting my job. Qoute unqoute. Did she forget like everything else prices go up and $475 is not a lot of money. Now she is the same one who was buying what she wanted when she wanted and ended up almost loosing it and had to get a part tme job. I just don't understand people, I am so afraid to spend money these days it's scary

You are not the only one who is being extra tightfisted with money. It takes a lot of self discipline not to go on spending sprees with all the clever advertising and other factors going on now.

I used to be a total airhead spendthrift. Ever since I took the plunge and have started the envelope system, I'm amazed at how much tighter I have gotten with money. Right now I still have over $50 that I can draw on in an emergency. Pretty good for someone who has only $100 each month to work with.

I feel sorry for your friend, but I guess life is going to have to bite her in the you know where before she gets it about money, budgets and saving. You just keep sticking to your guns.

Is that $475 a month from Social Security for her child? If so,remind her it's for her CHILD, not for her to live it up. And you're right, some people never learn.

I have some friends (a family of 4) who have that kind of money mentality. These people have lived in poverty for years. After 3 years of waiting for SS Disability the husband finally gets it in, in a lump sum payment. He immediately goes out and buys himself a $2,000.00 guitar, his son a guitar and his wife a $1,000.00 diamond ring. They blew the whole lump sum payment in one week. But then, just this past week they put a request in our church bulletin asking if anyone had a couch and bed they could donate to them since they don't have either.

People like that drive me crazy! They have been so broke they have had to borrow TOILET PAPER from church memebers, but I've noticed they have never gone without cigarettes.

Does she not know that money will stop as soon as the child turns 18 if he does not go on to college? When the child gets older and knows that money is THEIRS trust me I bet they will be wanting it!

Well Sky, you hit it when you said when that kid turns 18 she will want the money, she already does

Well, did your brother say why he needed the money? I wouldn't loan anyone any money, but especially if they can't provide me at least a decent enough reason.

It's not quite the same situation of course but as an example I didn't start receiving any child support for my son until he was 16 years old, and believe me he knew exactly what day it was due to come in. I'm sure the girl will be very vocal about wanting HER money!
