Warning this is a long post:
Wow seems like my year is not getting any better. First I did not get a raise this year, next I get the flu, some kind of way I fell back into old habits and upped my CC bill, mom has an infection with her toe, and my older brother who has been on his job 24+ years was just fired because he won’t stop smoking pot and did not pass a random drug test. I have not added to my challenge like I am suppose and am $2k behind on my goal. In addition y cable bill is now up due to increase rates $71

And today I get an email from the idiot I have as a boss on my second job stating that I dropped the ball. Basically a resident was discharged from one hospital and moved to another on Friday, I work on Saturday. Some one called and told security he did nothing with the information or from what I gather now informed no one. I then get a call from her neighbor who is concerned and followed –up as much as I could, once told by the security guard and former supervisor that he knew I assumed that my boss knew as well and went home

Here is a copy of the email I sent her as my response and of course she has yet to respond and I refuse to take the blame for this, the only thing I would have done differently was note in the log that I was informed by another employee that he too knew about the patient being discharged:

Let me clarify, I was informed by a resident that she was unable to reach Ms. X and that she called the hospital and was informed that she had been discharged. I did follow up, I thought by contacting the CC (skilled facility) in which I was told that she was not there, I later contacted the hospital and was on hold I'll say about 20 minutes (because of some emergency) I was then told that she was discharged. In addition, I called the resident's home and no answer. I also sent R (security) to check her apartment, after he checked her apartment I was told she was not there. So I re-read the notes in case I missed something....and nothing noted, had N (security guard/former supervisor) noted/followed up on Friday I think the problem would have been cleared up then. Anyhow, since nothing was noted I called Ms. X back trying to get as much information from her as possible, such as when she last spoke with her, and what the conversation was about. In the meantime N was in last night and mention to me that he knew Ms. L had been discharged from the hospital/not that she simply went out...so if he knew then I assumed that at the most J (supervisor) knew and what more follow up is needed if a former supervisor who knows company protocol is aware of situation as well has his/her manager is aware, what else is needed? What additional follow-up is needed?
I do not attend to come across angry but it does angry me that once again I am left holding the blame when clearly the situation was neglected prior to my shift an entire 24-hour later.
Have you spoken to N as to why nothing was noted? And if J was even aware? or anyone one else for that matter
If you have any questions please call xxxxx if I do not answer leave a message I am going to the library or email me I check my email on a regular basis

Now I am ticked off because not only did she accuse me of not doing my job but she did my annual review in which I only worked with her a total of 6 hours that right 6 hours for the year and was told that my appears was not u to par, mind you I wear a uniform that is always cleaned and iron. For the measly few dollars that one makes this little job is so stressful the entire place is ran like a circus. People are promoted based on who they know and not what they know

Wow. First things first. Take a deep breath (or six).

For the job, you need to decide if it's worth it there or not. maybe start polishing off the old resume and floating it around. I always re-evaluate my job every six months. Am I still happy and growing? What do I want to get out of this job? Etc.

For the financial, you hit a spedd bump. It happens. I might hit one this month too. I am already about $500 over budget and I don't know if I can get back on budget and absorb that. So, let's move forward. What are you going to do now? Let's set up the plan and get back to work on it. This probably won't be the last time either, so let's get to work. Let's get the budget going and re-evaluate our goals. Are they still realistic.

As for the brother, what can you do? He took the rick and now must live with it. Hopefully, it will be a wake up call. It is his fault and not the company.

Now, kick the wall, scream a little, pound the table, and let's get back on track!!!

You can do it. And keep the focus!!!

I'd start working on finding a different second job. If you know you did right, you can hold your head up, and try not to let someone else's wrong assumption get to you. But you probably need to be with a boss who offers more appreciation.

As for the other setbacks, they are frustrating, for sure. As Merch says, speed bumps. But you've got it in you to keep on going and get past this. You have certainly shown your perseverence on this site, so just keep setting one foot in front of the other! You'll get there.

Amber, I feel for you. Any one of these problems would feel manageable on its own, but coming all together it starts feeling out of control. I know that you'll pull through, and I hope writing your frustrations in your blog helped release some tension!
    take care,
    CJ

I agree with everyone else that you probably need to look for another job. Who knows! The change might be a possitive one.

I do know where you are coming from. Sometimes, I start hearing alot of bad news from the families all at once and it can get overwhelming because they want for you to be as involved as they are into it. Sometimes my response makes them think that I don't care, but you have to look out for family emmeshment where it doesn't allow you to be who you are and to make decisions that are right for you.

You have to listen to them and just turn it off immediately from your brain. There is nothing that you can do that can change any of it.

As for the cc's. You'll get back on track. This year so far has been one with a lot of bad news for people in the financial world and for those with these sub-prime loans, high gas prices, increased food and restaurant costs, as you say cable increases, etc. We could all use a little good news soon. I've got to where I just turn the bad news off of the TV.

    Amber,
Sure sounds like a frustrating place to be in your job. I know you will find something better as you are a great employee who really cares. Keep your chin up, and I will do the same! Smile

yes, i too had a couple of weeks where everything felt like it was going wrong! it can suck. i suggest just tackling one problem at a time, start with the smallest one first and as soon as you are done with it and it's sorted out, forget it and move on!!! don't let it weigh you down.
i suggest trying to not let your brother worry you. it is his choice and there is nothing you can do to change that. i know it's hard, but as soon as you let it do it will be a little less of the burden.
look after yourself! i hope the flu has gone but remember if it hasn't then it will go soon! drink some ginger and lemon tea and ahve a nice bath.
the raise part sucks, but maybe in a couple of months you can work up the courage to talk to your boss about a raise, seeing as you didn't get one at the start of the year.
best wishes! don't let it get you down too much, and remember how far you've come!

The Good News is that the Bad News is subject to change. Hang in there. The best is yet to come.
