Refinancing the House

May 31st, 2020 at 06:39 pm

‪The broker that helped with me purchasing my home called to tell me the rates have dropped to 2.85% that’s 3% points less than I’m paying. I’ll be refinancing my home. ‬my mortgage should drop by $300, I’ll take the savings and throw it at the student loans.

Before I do anything, I’ll have my realtor/accountant friend review. He is the one who told me to let them know I was not interested in the appraisal since I live in the home, I did so and it was agreed I won’t have to have it done. Saving of about $600.

He mentioned some other fees I should be able to have waived.

I’m excited about getting my life together. No credit card debt and now working on the student loans is my feel good moment.

I’ve been in the dumps, actually an emotional wreck since the killing of George Floyd, I know what it’s like to be black in America. I have an app on my phone in that if I get stopped by law enforcement it automatically starts recording when I open it. It’s scary but necessary. I’ve had this app for years.

I’m praying for all involved and leadership

That's great news on the mortgage rate, Amber! And a great plan on how to use the savings. Have you calculated how that extra $300 will speed up the loan payoff?

There is so much sadness right now. I have family members and friends who are black. It's such a dark and fearful time. I pray for changes that lead us to a place where you do not have fear law enforcement. Oh what a beautiful day that would be. ((Hugs))

Amber, you should be so proud of yourself!
Not only have you paid off so much debt, you’ve bought a home, and you’ve become so much more financially literate. The way to beat the system is to understand it, and you’ve put in the effort to do that.

I am so sorry that we live in a country where you have to be afraid just because you are you. CNN interviewer a protester last night who spoke so passionately about why he was protesting. I cry most days now, and he was one of my reasons last night. Everything is so senseless.

Be careful in the days ahead, but be so so so proud of yourself!

So happy for all your financial progress it is a great feeling when you get each debt paid down and gone...can't wait till you get your student loans paid off..

I am so sorry that anyone of color has to go through that and my heart breaks for each one of you...know that even though I will never understand what you guys go through I am standing right there next to you...hoping that one day in the future that you can delete that app and wake up each and go about your business feeling safe and secure no matter where you are or what you are doing...

Be so proud of all that you have achieved

Proud of you, Amber! And many virtual hugs. The racism in this country is an open, bleeding wound that hurts all of us. My heart breaks for this terrible divide. Stay safe, Amber, and know that there are many who care very much.
