Not Better Off

March 30th, 2025 at 03:40 pm

I tell you what, when asked if I’m better off than I was four years ago, my answer is Hell no!

The cost of goods has increased, work is extremely slow, interest rates on savings decreased, lost a long-term client, and my retirement accounts have been hit badly, not to mention my nerves.

With all this talk about social security, I am nervous about my mom, she has small savings, no debt, and her social security. She depends on that, I don’t know what we would do if this administration screwed that up.

I pray that things get better. I'm nervous but  hopeful

I don't even have to go back 4 years...I'd say things in the past few months have really deteriorated. My retirement accounts as well as my husband's have taken a hit and it is getting frightening. I hope things level out soon for everyone.

I have thought about it, and tax implications not withstanding, I plan on taking out Social Security as soon as possible. I just do not trust that SS is going to be around long. But will see how it goes. For all I know, by the time it’s my turn to withdraw it, I will need it just to pay for regular living expenses.

My mother is in the same boat as yours. I'm not sure what we would do either. A friend of mine who recently had to move her parents from one state to another and go into senior living with her step mom going into memory care was just notified that they aren't eligible for medicare.
