Alex Pretti

I don't want to hear crap from any Trumpers who think that this execution of this young man justified!

I have been in tears all day, trying to comprehend when, how and why are we at this state in this country.

As a Black woman I have experienced racism, in the workplace, friends of friends, school etc. I didn't learn about what my parents endured until later on in life. You read about the Little Rock 9, sit ins and you think, this was so long ago. And now here we are real time, watching a US president order executions on citizens and people that can do something aren't. I'm devastated. Lord please forgive us

We are truly living through times that I thought were long in the past.
It’s why learning history is so important.
I find hope in all the people fighting back.
Take care of yourself and those around you.

As you can imagine, I have also been quite upset about all this. Unfortunately, all this is exactly what Trump wanted: To distract from the Epstein files by basically shitting on his political opponents (Gov Tim Walz in this case) any way he can. With both Renee and Alex, he has "succeeded", and unfortunately, that also means that he will have no reason to back off.

I truly hope that there is a blue wave this year, leading to a majority Congress that can provide a counter-balanced to this unhinged administration. Otherwise, it will only embolden him and MAGA even further for the next two years at least.

Tabs, I’m a former republican, I do not recognize this party. Once Trump was elected the first time, I changed my party affiliation. I couldn’t stand him as a democrat and I despise him as a republican. He’s disgusting. And Hillary was right, if you’re still supporting this tyrant you’re deplorable. Killing people, detaining kids, harming others is not American.

Ah, I also voted Republican in the past. Well, I respected Bush senior, voted Bush Jr the first time, thinking and hoping he would be like his dad. However, once the war in Iraq commenced, shifting the military from Afghanistan to Iraq, I knew we were headed into the wrong direction. Anyway, I've been independent ever since, though I did end up voting for Obama, Hillary, and Biden the last few times, but mostly because I thought they were the most qualified for the job, and not exactly because they were Democrats per se.

What I really don't understand is why many Americans are still drinking the lies and propaganda Kool-aid, especially those that are coming from the Right. It's so clearly obvious that they are lying to people, and Trump never hid about his intentions to destroy the country for his own financial gains and petty revenge either.

It's a weird time we live in, that's for sure, but we have to stay strong, even if it's just for ourselves and our own sanity. Please take care, and at least know that you are not alone in your grief.

I don't either. I don't recognize the country and the way we are going. Why aren't people standing up and saying how do you shoot people in the face and back on video and get away with it?

As someone who is looking in from the outside know that many of us stand with you, nothing we can do about it but know we are looking at what is happening and are grieving with all the deaths not just this one but for all the people have died since Trump has come in, the farmers who are going broke etc...we all see it and are praying for you just know the world is watching and praying for you all

I do have to say that from what I have been reading and hearing is that Trump is apparently trying to start things in certain cities so he can call martial law and not have the elections because he knows how many seats they will lose...and he wants to stay in power

Big hug. I share your sorrow about what is going on in this country. Honestly, I still have this feeling that this is all a dream or something, like I still can't wrap my head around it. The Rumpers just parrot what they hear on Fox instead of watching the videos with their own eyes and drawing their own conclusions. This is murder, plain and simple.

    Was Ashli Babbitt murdered?

  10. Amber Says:

    NYK - no!

NYK, one of the common tactics of the Right loves to use is whataboutism. Right? Instead of agreeing or even addressing the issue at hand, oh but what about that other tragedy that favors my side instead of yours?

The obvious problem is that, not only is it a logical fallacy-- because it only deflects instead of addressing the issue-- but it also exhibits an incredible lack of empathy and understanding. To me, both cases are tragic, none of them are OK, and all warrant impartial investigations.

But sure, feel free to go tribal, and publicly prove to others, time and time again, that one does not exhibit neither intelligence nor wisdom by resorting such basic tactics that ultimately falls flat.

Tabs, just trying to point out hypocrisy on both sides. Just like you did when you tried to compared Don Jr. to Hunter Biden.

  13. Tabs Says:
    1769712774

NYK, I fail to see the hypocrisy for a comparison that I did not make (between Don Jr. and Hunter Biden). To me, they are separate individuals with separate incidents, each with very different lives and trajectories.

Even if a comparison can be drawn, how is that hypocritical? I was personally never much a fan of either individuals, and have openly criticized both. Are you sure you are not drinking too much of the Far-Right Koolaid here?

  14. Amber Says:
    1769715656

The two deaths are NOT the same.

I understand why people want to compare these cases, the facts don’t match. In Alex Pretti’s case, there was no mob, no breach of a federal building, and no scene of people attacking and beating officers let us never forget the jerk who defected the Speaker’s office .

Ashli Babbitt was shot inside the U.S. Capitol during January 6 while a large group forcibly entered the building and law enforcement was under assault.

  15. NYK Says:
    1769723900

Sorry Tabs, the hypocrisy I am attempting to point out is that two American citizens were killed by law enforcement while protesting. Some people have no problem with the death of Ashli Babbitt.

Also,I was talking about you calling my comment ‘whataboutism’. Don’t you think you did the same thing when you complained about the Trump family benefiting financially in an earlier post. And then wondered ‘where did all the Republicans go that howled at all the insider trading and conflict of interest such as Hunter Biden?’ (Your words)
Isn’t that whataboutism? Republicans complain about Hunter Biden and you say ‘what about the Trump family?’

  16. NYK Says:
    1769725387

Amber, there are differences and similarities. I don’t believe either case was an execution or a murder. I do believe law enforcement officers were in difficult situations.

And prosecutors would have to prove not only that the officer used force that was constitutionally unreasonable, but that the officer did so “willfully,” which the Supreme Court has interpreted to mean that the officer acted with a bad purpose to disregard the law. As this requirement has been interpreted by the courts, evidence that an officer acted out of fear, mistake, panic, misperception, negligence, or even poor judgment cannot establish the high level of intent required under Section 242.

  17. Tabs Says:
    1769738696

NYK, once again, I am not one of those people who does not have a problem with the death of Ashli Babbitt. Just like in the civil war, regardless of which side suffers and dies, in the end, they are all still American casualties.

However, even if I wanted to draw some comparisons, the two are just so different in circumstances. For Jan 6, the protestors who broke into the federal building literally did not have to do that, and doing so was clearly breaking the law. The protestors also continually disobeyed law enforcement from ceasing on the criminal activity.

Alex Peretti, on the hand, was armed with a camera. That is legal. Well, he was armed with a gun too, but was also legal, and he never reached for it either. Yes, he was also out in the streets (not a federal building), but that is also legal, the same way it was legal for ICE to be there as well. He is also legally allowed to try to save a woman, who by the way was legally blowing a whistle, but is legally protected under the 1st amendment.

To be clear, it was the ICE agent who instigated this situation by committing illegal assault and battery, knocking her down. Trying to save her, Alex was beaten and killed for it, so that's 2nd degree murder, ADW or manslaughter at the very least.

Notice that I did not use any terms such as "Republican" or "Democrat", because that seems to throw some people such as yourself for a loop, which is interestingly enough what is going to cause hypocrisy if anything. All I have looked at are the legal facts of the case. Who were the ones breaking the law, and who was not.

As for whataboutism, I hope it's answered already. I don't take sides. I only look at the legal facts of every case. I also did not use it as a way to deflect and invalidate on a subject the same way you did earlier. Not that it matters, but I'm also retired law enforcement, and I even have a buddy who is seriously thinking about joining ICE. So, I might know more about this stuff than I am letting on. I also don't take stuff like this lightly, because I am normally very pro-LE, but facts are facts.

NYK, I just realized I did not address the other point you brought up. To clarify, I am referring to the hypocrisy of the Republicans who blamed Hunter Biden for benefiting from Joe Biden being President, but is somehow not sounding the same alarms when it is Don Jr. (and the other kids) benefitting from Trump being President. That IS hypocrisy. When the standards only apply to your enemies, but not your friends, THAT IS HYPOCRISY. Does that make sense?

As for you using whataboutism, it was in response to your own words, "Was Ashli Babbitt murdered?" The topic here isn't Ashli Babbit. The topic here is Alex Pretti. But the fact that you wrote, "Was Ashli Babbitt murdered?" is what I see as an attempt to employ the logical fallacy known as whataboutism.

NYK it is reported that they had taken his gun off of him and 2 ice officers then shot him while he was on the ground he wasnt a threat to them and better believe that once Trump is out these people will be held accountable lawyers are already gathering information on these deaths and immunity wont be there, many of these people will end in jail...As for biden and Trumps families there is a big disparity in how much money has been made from their time as presidency they have made over 4 billion $ in a year plus all the extras he has been getting like a plane that he is spending tax payers money on to refurbish...and yet many can't afford to eat or have healthcare....it is a sad state of affairs for the US
